Really?

Should we really be trying to control what students wear in their own homes?

Apparently, school district leaders in Springfield, Illinois think they should.  You can read about it at the NY Times article, No Pajama Pants Allowed While Learning From Home, Illinois District Says.

One of my students in the spring began to sign-in not wearing a shirt. I had a private and respectful conversation with him about it, and he explained that it was very hot in his house. That explanation made sense to me. We agreed that when it was hot, he would turn-off his video.

Apart from not wearing clothes, and apart from wearing something that communicates something that is racist or clearly offensive, what educator cares what students wear in their own homes?

Don’t we have bigger fish to fry?
