Migrant teens and children have challenged three administrations, but Biden faces rush with no precedent from The Washington Post is the most recent article documenting the refugee challenge on our country’s southern Border.
I have to say that it is pleasing to see that we have an administration that actually thinks in terms of morals when it comes time to dealing with how to respond to this crisis.
I continue to be very concerned about how schools are going to support these young people.
As I’ve said earlier, we received many unaccompanied minors in the first surge during the Obama administration, and every one ended up dropping out. I have not yet been able to find any school that had anything that could be even vaguely called success with students who came on their own, though I’m sure there are ones out there. So many had so little previous schooling and had experienced so much trauma that we were not able to give them what they needed.
In California, at least, undocumented minors are now eligible for Medical, so they will have access to counseling – assuming Spanish-speaking counselors can be found.
Please, please, please let me know if you have had any success – we’ve got to do something different this time..
