Lots of surveys have found that teacher dissatisfaction is high, but limited research has suggested that teacher turnover hasn’t increased by much or any at all.

I believe that those conclusions are not shared by many or most teachers based on what’s happening in their own schools and districts, and I would bet that the next round of research is going to find a pretty big uptick in departures from the profession.

Two Years Later: How COVID-19 has Shaped the Teacher Workforce might the first if this new wave of surveys, and they found that turnover increased by 17% in Massachusetts.

My prediction is that by this time next year the average national teacher departure rate  (increased retirements and resignations) will be between fifteen-and-twenty percent above pre-pandemic levels.  I also wouldn’t be surprised if that’s a lowball estimate.

What do you think?
