Corridos are popular forms of Mexican ballads (that, unfortunately, have more recently taken to uplift narcotraficantes).

But they have a much longer history, and I’ve had students write their own in the past.  There used to be an excellent site to create them online, but it disappeared along with Adobe Flash.

Here, however, are some resources teachers can still use with students (I’m adding this post to The Best World Poetry Day Resources – Help Me Find More and to Best Posts On Writing Instruction):

This educator writes ‘anti-narcocorridos’ — songs that tell the story of heroes is from NPR.

Corrido is from The University of Arizona.

Corridos: Music as Storytelling and Historical Record is from The Smithsonian.
