It reflects what previous research has shown about the value of being authoritative, instead of authoritarian, in the classroom.

Nevertheless, I still am a believer that it’s fine to sometimes raise one’s voice and express anger and disappointment at student behavior, as long as that strategy is only used occasionally.  I’ve certainly found that to be effective.  The key, of course, is to make it the exception, not the rule.
