Earlier this month, I posted HERE IS A LIST OF GAMES CHATGPT SAYS IT CAN PLAY WITH ELLS TO HELP THEM LEARN ENGLISH.

Out of curiosity, today I asked it to share twenty different it could help a Beginning English Language learn English on their own.

It took a number of times and different rewording (I’ve been reading that ChatGPT is getting “dumber,” and that was my impression today), but here’s what it came up with (I thought the games list was much better):

Word Association Game: Students can give me a word, and I’ll respond with related words to expand their vocabulary.

Word Definitions: Students can ask me the meanings of unfamiliar words to build their understanding.

Sentence Building: I can help students construct basic sentences using newly learned vocabulary and grammar.

Short Story Completion: Students can start a short story, and I can help them finish it with creative ideas.

Picture Description: Students can describe a picture to me, and I’ll provide feedback on their language use.

Easy Q&A: I can answer students’ simple questions about various topics to practice conversation.

Learn Phrases: Students can request common phrases, and I’ll provide examples and usage.

Basic Verb Conjugation: I can help students conjugate verbs in simple tenses (e.g., present, past) in sentences.

Practice with Pronouns: Students can work on using pronouns correctly, and I’ll correct any mistakes.

Counting and Numbers: Practice counting in English, and I can help with pronunciation and patterns.

Greetings and Farewells: Students can practice different greetings and farewells, and I’ll provide variations.

Learn Colors and Shapes: I can teach the names of colors and shapes and use them in exercises.

Find Synonyms and Antonyms: Students can request synonyms or antonyms, and I’ll provide suitable words.
