Is anyone surprised to learn that a new poll from Education Week finds that more teachers are considering leaving the profession?

Of course, there were similar poll results a year ago, but that hasn’t become a reality.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that we’ve been in a pandemic-induced recession over the past twelve months, and people are likely to stay at the jobs they have when they are not confident they will find another one.

Now that the economic recovery has begun, I’d bet we see a different picture this summer.

The Ed Week poll results suggest some actions districts can take to stem this forthcoming tide.  Based on the lack of competent administrative leadership we’ve seen at so many of them over the past twelve months, I’m not very confident they’ll make those necessary changes.
