Katie and I have completed the manuscript for the second edition of The ELL Teacher’s Toolbox, which is officially titled The ELL Teacher’s Toolbox 2.0.
Jennifer Borgioli Binis from Schoolmarm Advisors is just finalizing the actual manuscript submission. I tell ya’, if you’re writing a book, you want to work with Jenn!
The first edition had 45 chapters, while this one has 61 (one written by Valentina Gonzalez and another by Carol Salva and Stephen Fleenor).
All the previous chapters have been revised – some in minor ways, others top-to-bottom.
Most chapters now have a new “differentiation infographic” detailing how to use the strategy with students who have different levels of English language proficiency.
As we did in the first edition, we have strong connections to technology in each chapter, including discussions of Artificial Intelligence use (though, with the pace of AI advancement, those parts might be a bit outdated by the time the book comes out next spring – BUT, there are links to this blog where you’ll get updated advice!).
Each chapter also includes how to implement the strategy if you’re teaching online though, knock on wood, we hope we never had to do that again.
We basically added a second new book to the first edition. It’s so large that at least eleven chapters will only be online. We’ve also put all the references online. All the online resources will be available free with no registration required. Most of the nearly 200 student hand-outs will also be available for download.
It’s been two years of labor (while we simultaneously taught high school full-time), though I’m not sure that either of us would call it a “labor of love” at this point 🙂
We hope teachers will find it helpful!
It will be out early next spring because, unfortunately, we will still have to review the copy-editors comments and then the galley sheets. It never seems to end!
