Here are this week’s highlights:
I'm not sure there's a clear answer about when to reduce the use of clozes. However, an intermediate step that I like to do is have students create clozes using these guidelines: https://t.co/KyhvKOYkvk

One other intermediate step could be ‘writing structures’ which provide guidelines (ABC- answer question, back it up with evidence, make comment) instead of fill-in-blanks. I do agree that these r tough calls with no clear answers

We regularly show different tenses of verbs when we introduce new vocabulary and note the endings added/spelling changes. #MLLChat_BkClub 6.0 #ESLsg pic.twitter.com/QhBsXspGf8

Agree. Phonics instruction is essential. AND, Ss need access to texts beyond the phonetically contrived stories that are devoid of interesting plots. to showcase the target sound, they often include words that are SUPER challenging and not intuitive. #MLLChat_BkClub 6.0 #ESLsg pic.twitter.com/6XwAzbtgE4

There’s a strong connection between these two quotes. LEA is effective bc Ss are compelled to share, write, and read about their experiences and what ✨MATTERS✨ to them. #MLLChat_BkClub 6.0 #ESLsg pic.twitter.com/H7XC581mdb

Veteran teachers should be reading @Larryferlazzo @KHullSyp 's book. Being reminded about good practice and expanding on old ideas keeps us current with our teaching. #MLLChat_BKClub 6.0 #ESLsg pic.twitter.com/UfjK6ctawb

The efficacy of PWIM is so impressive! #mllchat_bkclub 6.0 #ESLsg I love how it can easily be incorporated in many different ways! pic.twitter.com/5cASFWiaPj

So much of what we do is content based, so unfortunately I don’t have any Rs or Ns to report.
Great info in part 2 for those that teach newcomer and beginner EL courses! pic.twitter.com/Gj63XPTprd

#ESLsg @Larryferlazzo @KHullSyp @KatieToppel #MLLChat_BkClub 6.0 How do you modify or enrich #PWIM? What do your students induce during a #PWIM activity??? @TanKHuynh @ValentinaESL @PalawatShilpa do you have this book?!? ^_^ pic.twitter.com/1JqLi9jsVQ

Reading The ESL/ELL Teacher's Survival Guide is a gift to myself even at this point in the year. It reminds me of my why. #MLLChat_BkClub 6.0 #ESLsg @Larryferlazzo @KHullSyp pic.twitter.com/gjjAz7qVrk

Here’s a way I ❤️to modify #PWIM for #HS #ELD. Use pics of old inventions, label as a class. Ss infer how the invention was used/write #inference & #rationale in journal, pair/share. Answer revealed next class. #MLLChat_BkClub 6.0 #ESLsg @Larryferlazzo @KHullSyp #SWiRL 🗣✍️🌀📚👂🏼 https://t.co/lzTJnAEAQ8 pic.twitter.com/yvBWp607oF

#ELs benefit from lots of retrieval practice. A Retrieval Practice Notebook is one way to implement the routine of recalling what's been learned.⬇️ #MLLChat_BkClub 6.0 #ESLsg @Larryferlazzo @KHullSyp #ESL #ELL #MLL
