Nicole Scrivner, a talented teacher colleague whose create ideas are no stranger to this blog’s pages, shared another great one last week at our English Department meeting.

She talked about a “Shoutout Whiteboard” where she lists particular work they’ve done in class like “Excellent Draft Essay” and lists names of students below it.  She regularly changes it, and I’m sure she ensures that most, if not all, students get their names on it during the year.

Students often take pictures of their names on the board to show to family members.

I thought that might be a good idea to try out in my ELL Newcomers class, so I purchased a whiteboard that is larger than our mini-ones, and began last week.

It’s gone very well so far!

There’s not much time left in the school year, but a little novelty can’t hurt!
