I constantly write about Quizizz and their extremely frequent new features.

One of their newest ones is the ability to take any YouTube video, ask Quizizz to use AI to generate questions for it and, presto, you have an interactive video for students.  As with all of Quizizz’s … quizzes, teachers can easily go to a very user-friendly report screen to see how well students did answering the questions.

Once I find the YouTube video I want to use, it takes a minute or two to have Quizizz make it interactive and share it to Google Classroom.

For English Language Learners, it’s a great listening and reading (closed captions are available) activity.

The only negative is that, at least for now, the interactive videos are only available for students to use on their own devices.  In other words, you can’t show the video to the entire class and then have students answer the questions on their devices, like you can with Nearpod or EdPuzzle.  I’m assuming that Quizizz will make that a possibility in the future.

I have loved Brainpop over the years, but with this kind of low-to-no-cost option, it’s hard for me to believe a lot of schools and districts are going to pay their relatively expensive subscription price.  And Quizizz is so easy to use, once it creates the ability to let a teacher show a video to the class and have students answer questions on their own devices, I don’t EdPuzzle (which I have also loved over the years) has much of a chance to survive.

You may be wondering why I said in the headline to this post that Quizizz’s interactive videos are only going to be ubiquitous for now.

The answer is Google.

Google has the ability to create interactive videos in their paid Google Classroom edition (which our district is considering buying next year).

Even with how easy it is to use Quizizz, nothing is going to be able to beat the ease of use for teachers to create interactive videos right inside their Google Classroom.

So, once districts buy that edition of Google Classroom or if and when Google decides to make it part of their free version, I think it’s safe to say that many teachers, including me, will migrate to using it over Quizizz.  Of course, by that time, many of us may have made so many Quizizz videos that we won’t want to bother changing over….
