As regular readers know, I have students evaluate both themselves and me at regular times during the year.
Next week is the end of the semester and we’ll be having “finals.”
I’ve previously posted Here Are Forms My Students Are Using To Evaluate Themselves & Me. I’ll be using some of those again, but I’m also going to try out a new student self-assessment form in my history and IB Theory of Knowledge classes.
You can download it here, and I hope you’ll provide suggestions on how I can make it better, too.
I’m adding this post to The Best Resources On Grading Practices.
Thanks for this, Larry! I’ve adapted it for my middle school students and asked them to give themselves a “learner grade”. Should be interesting to see their responses!
I’d love to hear how it goes!
Thanks for this…I’m experimenting with a 3ps grading system (Participation. Progress, Performance) and this also relies on student self-reflection. What you have here is what I’m looking for. Everything else I’ve seen is more for behavior tracking or for elementary.
I’m beginning my first student-teacher conferences next week and I am concerned regarding the time that will take (I have 45 students per class) I see here that you only conference with those who have a difference of opinion. I think one to one is more valuable and essential for the first “grade” check. How is your system working for you? Have you tried conferencing with each student before?
Thank you so much for your time.
I only conference with students who think they deserve a different grade than I think they deserve, which are very few.
