Here’s one of my final “Best” of 2020 posts….
The first post is my most popular one, and it goes from there.
I’m adding this post to ALL END-OF-YEAR “BEST” LISTS FOR 2020 IN ONE PLACE!:
I get frustrated when I see school boards who continue to meet in Zoom vote to open schools, journalists who continue to work from home demand that schools open & college professors who continue to teach remotely complain about K-12 schools being closed.

A student wrote this in an anonymous survey: "Mr. Ferlazzo is a wonderful teacher. Although he looks old, he acts and seems young when you get to know him."

It's been a rough 5 weeks of full-time virtual learning, but I now can say I think students r learning a lot. Clearly physical f-2-f would be better, but our online classes r nothing to sneeze at. Still, big ? is if amount of required planning time to make it work is sustainable

Because I'm bald,I generally wear a fedora 2 school. Today, in middle of our online ELL class, spooky music started blaring, & a bunch of students (most who know me from previous years) turned on cameras to reveal themselves as costumed ghosts wearing fedoras. The kids r alright

I say hello & wave 2 every student in every class when I let them into Zoom. 2day,I was momentarily distracted by email as I was letting 1 class in. 1 student yelled out, "U didn't say hello 2 me, Mr. Ferlazzo!" Everyone wants to be acknowledged & they notice when they're not.

I made a grading error and sent an apology to a student via Google Classroom. She immediately replied, "That's okay. I make mistakes, too." 🙂

I think it's bad practice in general to fail a student who is trying in class, and I write that I think it's now immoral to give that student an F during the pandemic https://t.co/qYX1ebQTND

How can any teacher support this man? https://t.co/uz9q8KosdY

I'm sorry, Doug, I have to strongly disagree with you here. There are SO many other ways to engage w/students. Plus, if I required cameras on, nearly 1/2 of my students would be inaudible because of bandwidth issues.

Biden goes on record not wanting teachers to die from the coronavirus. Sounds good to me.

"One of the big problems is that lots of students feel that school is optional this year" – comment from one of my students today

Me on a 'good' day in Zoom when I'm admitting students, putting them into breakout rooms, moving in-between breakout rooms while admitting latecomers (& those who have been kicked out of Zoom b/c of Internet issues) & responding to student texts who are having Internet problems https://t.co/DqnFdtWyAD
